Workplace 101

The Future Of Work and the Current State of Work could not be further apart in ideologies, practice and execution. The disparity  lies in the Workplace. A Workplace that still has an assembly line mentality directly contrasts with the idea of innovation and collaboration, flexibility and work-life balance (the current buzzwords to make office environments seemingly workplace forward).

The butts in seat thought-process does not lead to efficiencies or productivity, it leads to being seen. What does it matter what I am doing a my desk, as long as I am there?
Far too many studies have shown the average actual “work-time” of an employee is about 4 hours. Yet we sit at our desk for 7-8 hours a day (if you work in a non-profit) and 10-12 hours (for corporate).  However, no greater quantity of work is being produced and 80% of the time, it’s crisis mode.

That begets my next point: We are not saving lives, nothing that I currently do in my cubicle necessitates the word “emergency” or “crisis”. It’s called poor planning and last-minute thinking. Can anyone actually fathom the amount of productivity a true 40 hr work week would yield?

Sincerely,
Xennial
