I would like to be less reactive. While googling an image for today’s post I came across many memes and quotes that suggested that the opposite of reactive is proactive…That is true in many cases except when dealing with relationships. I can not consistently anticipate the abnormal actions of others and thereby proactively have a plan as to how to deal with them.

Amateur Hour
At the grocery store.
Being in the grocery store the weekend before Thanksgiving is similar to being out on St. Patrick’s Day. It’s amateur hour.
What do I mean?

Today I reflect on the notion of making time. Many of us get swept up by the day-to-day and rarely find time to make time. The reality is, making time should be the norm not the exception. I consciously try to “make time” for all the things outside of my scheduled norm. Making the time to keep in touch with family and friends, making time to do those daunting chores and annoying work task. Making time seems to be the key to not feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Planning out when and how to tackle obligations actually makes me feel renewed and responsible.

Social Circles.
On any given weekend we have more plans that we can attend to. Our social circle is quite large and we are constantly figuring out logistics for social events. Today I am not only grateful for the friendships I have, but for the diverse circle of people I can talk to, learn from and share experiences with. Experiences like Korean BBQ in K-Town!

Traditions.
Every year on 11.10 we return to The Bar Downstairs to celebrate our first date. This year because we were in Charleston on 11.10, we went on 11.16 (the date of our second date). Nonetheless, I am a sucker for traditions. It’s important to celebrate. In the midst of deadlines, errands, chores- this one day allows us to reflect on how we met, what we spoke about and how that one date altered the years to follow.
This was our 5th time at The Bar Downstairs and the goal is to continue this tradition in some capacity every year.
62 Days of Reflection

I am embarking on the most celebratory yet stressful time of the year. As of Nov. 15th, it will be 2 months of family, friends, food and celebrations. Thanksgiving sets the stage for the holiday season; Christmas is by far my favorite time of the year (minus the cold) and New Year’s is always festive. Sprinkle in work deadlines, academic obligations, a few birthdays (including mine on Jan. 7th), shopping expeditions, holiday office parties and friend gatherings, the joyous holiday season can quickly go from celebratory to overwhelming.
Therefore, my 62 Days of Reflection begins today.
